Hunger Games Movie Release Date 3/23/12

“I’m going to be doing a lot of my own stunts,” says Lawrence. “I want to make sure I can run and jump and climb. I’ve been driving [the costume designer] crazy with the boots: ‘You have to fix this here, you have to make it lighter here, you have to open it up here.’ The dresses I don’t care about them. Just put them on me. It’s like Oscar season again.”

The world has got a pretty big appetite for “The Hunger Games,” and Lionsgate is ready to dish it up.

Considering the precedent set by the “Harry Potter” and “Twilight Saga” series, it should come as no surprise to fans that Lionsgate has decided to spread out the “Hunger Games” trilogy over four movies. Deadline broke the news this morning after Lionsgate executives talked up the upcoming film series to Wall Street analysts.

But it is unclear where exactly the breaking point will be. Both “Potter” and “Twilight” split their final books—”Deathly Hallows” and “Breaking Dawn,” respectively—in two, but Deadline never clarified whether it would be “Mockingjay” that is split in half or the entire story stretched out over four films. We would almost prefer the latter, with “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay” spread out over three movies, but that is just our opinion.

What this does mean, though, is that “The Hunger Games” is ready to make its stamp on the movie industry. Lionsgate COO Joe Drake said that the first flick, which has started filming, is the “highest-selling film we’ve ever had,” and if the hype just around the casting is any judge, it could be one of their highest-grossing films as well.

The casting process is pretty much finished, with Jennifer Lawrence, John Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth playing Katniss, Peeta and Gale. Rounding out the celebrity-stuffed cast is Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Donald Sutherland as President Snow and Toby Jones as Claudius Templesmith.
